Net billing allows you to connect your solar system to the JPS grid and sell excess electricity generated during the day back to the utility company. This can drastically reduce your monthly bill or even result in a credit. However, the application process requires patience.

Step 1: The GEI Inspection
Before JPS even looks at your application, your solar system must be inspected and certified by the Government Electrical Inspectorate (GEI). Your certified solar installer should handle the scheduling of this inspection. Once passed, you will receive a GEI Certificate.
Step 2: Submission to the MSET
You must apply for a Net Billing License from the Ministry of Science, Energy, and Technology (MSET). This application includes your GEI certificate, property title or authorization from the landlord, and technical schematics of your solar setup. The Ministry reviews this to ensure your system adheres to national safety standards.
Step 3: The JPS Interconnection Agreement
Once the Ministry grants your license, you take this to JPS. You will sign an Interconnection Agreement, which outlines the tariff rate at which JPS will purchase your power. JPS will then dispatch technicians to your home to install a special bidirectional meter that measures both the power you pull from the grid and the power you push back into it.
