Registering a business in Jamaica isn't just about looking official—it's about being legit. You need it to open a corporate bank account, sign contracts, and get taken seriously. The good news? The Companies Office of Jamaica (COJ) has this online system called the Electronic Business Registration Form (eBRF), so you can handle the whole thing from your living room.

Step 1: Name Search

First thing first, hop onto the COJ portal and check if your dream business name is already taken. You don't want to fall in love with a name only to find out it's owned by someone else. Reserving it costs a small fee, but it's worth every dollar to avoid headaches later.

Step 2: Create a COJ Account

Next, sign up on the COJ eBRF portal. You'll need your TRN handy and a valid government-issued ID—so make sure you've got those ready. It's pretty straightforward.

Step 3: Complete the eBRF

Now, you can register as a Sole Trader (that's the BN1 form) or a Limited Liability Company (the BRF1 form). The form will ask for your business address, what you actually do (nature of business), and the details of your directors. Nothing too crazy, just the facts.

Step 4: Payment

Time to pay up. Use a Visa or Mastercard to settle the registration fee online. A Sole Trader will set you back roughly $3,000 JMD, while a Company costs around $25,000 JMD. Once it's done, you'll get your digital certificate sent straight to your email—no waiting for the postman.
