Jamaica Tourism Booming in 2026: New Hotels, More Flights

According to the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), we already see over 1.5 million stopover visitors between January and March this year, a full 12% increase over the same period in 2025.

What a ting! The big news is the new hotel developments. Up in St. Ann, the new Riu Ocho Rios Bay opens its doors on June 1, 2026, adding 850 rooms to the north coast inventory. Down a Negril, the Sandals Negril Beach Resort & Spa just completed a $50 million upgrade, with 120 new luxury suites and a new spa complex. And in Kingston, the AC Hotel by Marriott Kingston is set to open in November 2026, right in New Kingston, bringing 200 rooms to the capital.

Flights a come in like never before. American Airlines now run three daily flights from Miami to Montego Bay, and JetBlue add a new non-stop route from Boston to Kingston starting May 15. Air Canada also increase service from Toronto to Montego Bay to twice daily during the summer. JTB Director Donovan White say, 'We a see strong demand from the US, Canada, and Europe. The UK market alone up 18% this year.'

But is not just numbers. The local people dem a feel the benefit. Mi chat with Miss Patricia Gordon, who run a craft stall in Ocho Rios. She tell mi, 'Since the new hotels start build, mi business pick up. More tourists a come, and dem love mi handmade jewellery and wood carvings. Mi even hire two more people to help out.'

What about the Government? Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett announce a new $200 million fund to help small tourism businesses upgrade and go green. Applications open from April 1. The aim is to make sure every Jamaican benefit from the boom.

But caution! With more visitors come more pressure. The JTB urging visitors to book early, especially for the winter season. And locals, protect your heritage. We don't want overdevelopment spoil what make Jamaica special.
