The grim discovery was made early in the morning by motorists who immediately alerted the authorities. Upon arriving at the scene, police cordoned off a significant section of the roadway, causing heavy traffic delays as crime scene investigators combed the area for evidence.
At this stage, the police are treating the death as highly suspicious. While they have not yet officially classified it as a murder or a hit-and-run, the position of the body and the nature of the injuries suggest foul play may be involved.
"We are currently exploring all angles," a police spokesperson indicated. "We are appealing to anyone who might have been driving along this stretch of the highway late last night or early this morning and saw anything unusual to come forward."
The identity of the woman has been withheld pending notification of her next of kin.
Residents in the surrounding areas are expressing deep concern over the incident, calling for increased patrols and better street lighting along the highway to deter criminal activity. The police are urging anyone with dashcam footage to contact the nearest station.
